Handwriting and paper

Handwriting that feels like ink on paper.

Low-latency pens, a highlighter that blends, five paper styles and seven page colours. Write, type and sketch on the same page, then find it all again with search that reads your writing.

The pen

Tools that stay out of the way.

Everything here is free in the Android app, and works best with an active stylus such as the S Pen.

  • Four pens

Ballpoint, fountain pen and marker, plus a highlighter that sits under the ink instead of over it.

  • Rest your palm

By default only the stylus draws, so your hand can rest on the screen and your fingers scroll the page.

  • Low latency, predicted

Ink is drawn with low latency and motion prediction, so the line keeps up with fast writing.

  • Shapes and lasso

Draw clean shapes and arrows, and lasso any part of the page to move it somewhere else.

  • Erase, undo, redo

Take back a stroke or a whole thought, and bring it back again if you change your mind.

  • Zoom for detail

Pinch in to write small or finish a diagram, then zoom back out to the whole page.

Paper, search and the canvas

Paper

Paper that suits the subject.

Choose blank, lined, grid, dotted or Cornell paper for each note, on one of seven page colours from white to black. Ink colours adjust so your writing stays readable on dark pages.

  • Lined and Cornell for lectures, grid for math and diagrams, dotted for bullet journals.
  • Pages keep their paper and colour in the web app, so a note looks the same everywhere.

Search

Find what you wrote by hand.

The Android app recognises your handwriting in the background, on the tablet itself, so search finds handwritten words next to typed text and note titles.

  • No need to convert your writing to text first. Your ink stays ink.
  • Works offline after a one-time download.

Pages and canvas

Pages when you want order. A canvas when you do not.

Paged notes suit lectures, meetings and journals. For mind maps, diagrams and plans, open an infinite canvas with text boxes, shapes, sticky notes and media.

  • Type and write on the same page, with Keyboard, Pen and Read modes.
  • Both kinds of note sync and open in the web app with Pro.

Do I need a stylus?

No, but Tavora is at its best with one. By default the pen only draws with a stylus, so your palm and fingers can rest on the screen and scroll the page; you can switch finger drawing on in Settings.

Which styluses work?

Any active stylus that Android reports as a pen, including the Samsung S Pen. Passive capacitive styluses work too, like a finger.

Can Tavora search my handwriting?

Yes. The Android app recognises your writing on the device in the background, so search finds handwritten words as well as typed text and titles.

Can I mix typing and handwriting?

Yes. Every page has both: switch between Keyboard, Pen and Read modes, and the typed text and the ink stay on the same page.

Pick up the pen.

Tavora Notes is free on your tablet. Add Pro when you want sync, the web app and Tavora AI.
